WORD! was an opportunity for filmmakers, artists, writers and other creative types to produce short experimental moving-image works with text or words as their focus for the City of Adelaide’s new East End Projector, which screens high-resolution content onto the eastern façade of the Target building on Rundle Street

The four commissioned works were:

Eight Word Stories, 2016

Eight Word Stories presents five “micro narratives” – very short collections of (eight) words, that convey a complete story in the utmost of brevity. They explore the bare essence of a story needed to prompt a human response.  Using custom software, randomness is added to the letters, creating subtle dynamics and unpredictability in language and meaning.

While researching for this work, I helped a stranger through a small anxiety attack with the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 method of paying attention to what we could see, hear, touch, smell and taste. Afterwards, I realised that I had always sought to achieve a similar sense of grounding in my practice and looked at what I would focus on should I reach a similar point on Rundle Street, aware that such an attack could happen to anyone at anytime.
